Meet Elom
Elom started Le Bon Goût ("The Good Taste") in 2024 to celebrate and share her Togo roots and African culture. What began as a passion in 2019 has grown into a catering and takeout service bringing bold, authentic flavors of West African food to Vermont, and sharing the warmth of African hospitality.
Growing up, Elom fondly remembers the aroma of her mother’s cooking filling the house. She spent countless hours at her mother’s side, helping her prepare meals and juices she sold at school, seeing how great food brings people together. She remembers the excitement of the students eagerly waiting to be served. When playing pretend cooking, she gathered real ingredients, used empty cans as pots, built fires, and cooked real food. Moments like these served as first lessons in creativity, resourcefulness, and the community spirit that food can inspire.
Her neighborhood would come alive with the smells, sounds, and colors of local street food. Some vendors had their own stations, while others walked through neighborhoods with food carriers on their heads, selling homemade meals to those they passed by. Their dedication, presentation, and connection with customers were a source of inspiration.
When she arrived in America, and especially in Vermont, Elom found it difficult to locate the flavors of her childhood so she slowly started recreating them—first for her family, then for the community.
Le Bon Goût offers traditional dishes like Waakye, Jollof Rice, Egusi Soup, and Pepper Soup with Fufu, as well as popular African street food such as puff puff balls, samosa and koliko, all made with fresh ingredients and traditional spices. Whether you're catering an event, hosting a pop-up, or enjoying our crafted Elixir Drinks, Le Bon Goût is sure to provide a memorable culinary experience.
